Out with a Bang!

We had our last swim meet of the season this past weekend. It was a quad meet, which meant that we were one of 4 teams competing against one another, compared to our usual 2. There were lots of swimmers in each age group, since there were so many teams. Both kids did well and we were so proud of Brooke for completing her first season. She loved it and really had a fabulous time. Her strokes improved a lot and she gained a lot of confidence in the water. Her favorite is backstroke and she won her heat 3 meets in a row with her backstoke. She has loved every bit of being onswim team and I know she'll continue to improve and love it more each season.

It was Austin's 4th season on the summer swim team and he enjoys it more each year. He really blossomed this season and at this last meet he was at the top of his game. We were so very happy for his success. So, in a nut shell, there were about 50 7 &8 year old boys at this meet and Austin got first place in 3 of his 5 events!! He got a 2nd and a 3rd in his other two, which are fabulous as well. He had an awesome meet and we were so proud of him. He loves to swim and it's so fun to see him develop his skill while having a great time. He really ended the season with a bang! Now he's just trying to talk us into signing him up for the year round team. J

Swimming!

I know it sounds a little strange to hear that my kids started swim practice today, since it's February, but today was a beautiful day! Even if it wasn't, the pool was heated so it would have been OK. :-)
The kids have been itching to get on our local swim team and we've been on a waiting list for a few months. Some spots finally opened up for them and they are thrilled to be starting practice this month. It's awesome for me that the pool is right across the street from our school and practice is shortly after school. Austin has been on the summer swim team for a few years, so we knew he'd take right to it. Brooke has been excited about it for a long time, but this was her first actual practice. I was unsure of how it would go, but she jumped right in and swam like a rock star. I was so proud of her! She's really stoked to be a part of something that she has watched Austin do for years. I can't believe she's already so big but it's fun to see her make such great strides.

Austin is really excited to be swimming in the winter season, since he's only done summer in the past. He has 2 friends in his class that are on the winter team and they've been excited for him to join them. We celebrated the arrival of swim practice by getting some new goggles for each of the kids and a cute new swim suit for Brooke. I'll be sure to post a cute picture of that, when she wears it next.

Cameron kept me hopping the whole time we were at the pool, of course. He really, really, really wanted to throw stuff int he water. He kept picking things up off the ground and running away from me toward the water with hand fulls of rocks and dirt from the planters, mulch, weeds, you name it. Water is meant for throwing stuff in, right? he sure thinks so. We'll have a fun few months of trying to break him of that habit, I'm sure. At least he wasn't trying to jump in, I'm sure that will come soon. We decided to add swimming as our newest adventure because you know what, we weren't busy enough around here. I sure love my kiddos and they really wanted to do it, so here we go every day to swim practice. :-)
